SO WHATS WITH THE WHOLE INDIE/HIPSTER THING THESE DAYS et'cetera.

I'm dead serious.
Since when did looking like a nerd/homeless person
become 'cool' as they say?
I must've missed that memo.
Nerds used to get beat up at school.
And homeless people are just plain dirty.
We want to be like them.... why?!
(while we're at is, who is 'they' as we all quote?
'they' say.. blahh blahh)
So many people are trying to be as individual as possible & in their attempts to do so, they only become like
everyone else around them.
Then theres the whole cool, but not cool thing.
People who are trying to be cool, by not being cool, in the hope that they will be cool.
Although, no true indie person would ever admit to this.
Have i lost you yet?
Its a circle, just keeps going round.
Bangs, fake reading glasses, cider, fixie bikes taking over the world, shirts buttoned all the way up, photos of ourselves with hands by our sides and zero expression, necklaces down to our belly buttons, shoes & no socks (how do you not get blisters i wonder) the list goes on..
I promise you, dear reader, right here right now that i am not dissing this movement whatsoever.
I think I am more intriguied by it.
Where did it all come from..
Or am i just saying all of this because i am secretly trying to be cool by not trying at all?
Probably.
(But i'd never admit to that.)

PEOPLE WHO DRIVE EXPENSIVE CARS CAN BE NORMAL.

Driving to work this morning, stuck in traffic yet again, sipping a homemade mocha in a thermo' cup, listening to rubbish morning radio, I'm glancing around at the cars nearby and spot this one: Carrera S4.. somethin' somethin'
Instantly i figure the guy driving this has a well paying job, probably some hot girlfriend/wife to boot
..or perhaps he has both...
lives in some fancy brand new house overlooking the beach and has his own maid.
(that's probably a little extreme, but I'm sure it runs
true for some people out there)
Why do we instantly judge people by their appearances?
Maybe we want to 'work them out' the fastest way possible to gauge whether they are 'worthy' of our time & friendship..
Or is it because we want assurance that hey, maybe I'm better off than that guy in his slick shiny car and I'm not
actually in the dregs of society.
(this line of thought coming from someone *me* who has been awake for half an hour and not exactly functioning properly.. well, not yet.. give me 15 more minutes to wake up fully and I'll be fine)
Like this morning, you will see someone or something that you will immediately judge.
And then, as you cruise passed this particular person in traffic, you glance over to their car and you spot this
hanging from their rear vision mirror and it throws ALL of your theories out the door.
Hey, shock horror!
At the end of the day, people who drive expensive cars are actually as normal as i am!
He's probably got a kid or two, a loving wife & they live in an old school weatherboard house near a playground.
Don't judge. It's so not worth it.
And more often than not, you'll be wrong.

'LET'S DO COFFEE'

Those 3 little words can bring a smile to almost anyones face.
'Lets do coffee.'
I'll admit it- I'm a sucker for a coffee date.
Always have been & always will be.
Why do we love it so much?
Do we actually love the taste of coffee?
Or is it the fact that more often than not, we are sharing this precious cafe' moment with one of our nearest & dearest friends while discussing trivial pursuits, world events or that ex-best friends ho-bag ways?
Either way, it brings people together.
And the options! Oh the options!
Flat white, latte', cappuccino, machiatto, affogato...
Then throw into the mix
Full cream, skinny, soy, cream, ice cream perhaps?
While we're at it, lets add some flavour...
Caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, coconut, irish cream.
You know what, lets make it a double shot!
Its ridiculous really. But I am definitely not complaining.
Oh and there's also iced coffee as well for those hot days.
I think i just like the fact that on a worldwide scale it can bring people together. No matter who you are, where you are from, what you are doing, it unites... in some caffeine infused way.
Whether it is to discuss the abovementioned or if you are just happy to sit there in each others company, it doesn't really matter at the end of the day does it?

A CADILLAC, A CHEVROLET & A CERTAIN DODGE. aka one for the boys.

Now you may be wondering why i have decided to make this post about old cars... truth is, im not exactly sure why.
I just like them.
Who needs a reason for anything these days.
Nike got it right when they said 'Just Do It.'
So here goes.
This first picture is a Cadillac Eldorado.
You wouldn't believe how much fun i had 'googling'
images of old cars!
I can be really quite lame at times. Theres no denying that!
They are HOT!
My like of old cars probably stemmed from my 2 gorgeous, older brothers both having a love of them.
They always drove them & had magazines lying
around the house about them.
Even down to this day, if i ever see a really nice, done up old school car driving along, i cant help but stop & stare or watch it for as long as possible in my rear vision mirror.
There is just something about them.
Something that oozes an instant cool factor & instant respect for the owner of such a sweet machine.
Is it because the owner has taken so much good care of it & kept it in mint condition?
Or the fact that some of them are painted in such beautiful, bright colours & they just bring a smile to your face no matter what sort of day your are having?
Below, is a Chevrolet Impala.
*INSTANT CHICK MAGNET!*
If a guy came to my house to pick me up for a date (does that even happen anymore?) and he rolled up in something like this... well, what can i say.. bonus brownie points.
Big time :)
...and if he did one better and rolled up in THIS.. *sigh.
(below- Dodge Charger, darlings!)
It would make for a lasting impression.. to say the least.
Then theres the whole super charged, V8, turbo engine, SS, hotted up whatevers that are also around.
Dont get me wrong, they are fine.
But if you want classic style, you cant go passed older cars.
Unless you own a Lamborghini.
Pick me up at 8pm?

'KILLER BOOTS, MAN!'

What is it about a set of killer, over the knee, black leather boots that just oozes appeal on a worldwide scale?
Is it the fact that every time winter rolls around for another year, they are always fashionable? Therefore, instead of spending another few hundred dollars on a brand spanking new pair, you can brush the dust off your old ones, give them a quick polish & strut along the street in them once more.
What about the fact that you can get away with wearing little skirts and still have warm legs in winter?
Or is it something to do with that one well purchased item being able to turn heads & be the envy of every woman who does not posses such boots, in turn almost giving
you a sense of empowerment?
I'll be honest with you, there is definitely a sense of mystey that comes with boots like this.
You see them strut passed you along the street while you are quietly minding your own business and sipping a soy late' at your favourtie cafe. (thats what all the cool cats are doing these days.. apparently) You cant help but watch them being strut all along the street until you can see them no more.
Where did she find such amazing boots?
I wonder how much they were?
Did i boost her ego a little bit too much by gawking at her?
How did she ever manage to get them on?
Ladie & Gents, i went to a fashion parade last night as part of the
Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
The runway show i saw had knee high boots galore.
Strutting along in all their leathery glory i couldn't help but wonder... 'where can i find these boots...?'

* FYI no, unfortunately those legs are not mine. Sigh..
